KEN (CHICK) FARAGHER SR.

It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Ken (Chick) Faragher Sr. announces his passing, with his family by his side, on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Chick was born July 9, 1945 and raised in Fort Frances, Ont. His childhood passions were baseball, hockey, fishing, trapping, and hunting.
At the young age of 15, he had his first job with Modern Plumbing in Fort Frances. From there, he moved to Thunder Bay to work on the grain elevators.
Fort Frances was always home. On his return, he worked cutting right-of-way for the new Highway 11/17.
During this time he met his one love, Lois Coughlin. They were married on June 26, 1965 in Fort Frances. Soon after, they returned to Thunder Bay, where Chick was employed with Northern Woods, loading boxcars with railroad ties.
It was in Thunder Bay that Chick and Lois welcome their first-born daughter, Shannon.
In 1968, they returned to Fort Frances, where Chick, along with his dad and brother, Harlan, started Faragher Lumber. Together they worked side by side building the family business.
They provided lumber to many homes in the district, which gave him a great sense of pride. They ran the family business until a fire destroyed it in 1980.
Chick continued his love for logging until this past spring. He always felt so fortunate to have his son, Ken, work alongside him.
In 1969, they welcomed their second daughter, Bonnie, and, in 1971, their son, Ken.
Over the years, they cherished raising their beautiful family together. The children were raised with such love, integrity, and strength.
It was this strength that encouraged his arm-wrestling career. Chick spent many hours perfecting his skills and techniques, which led him to the Nationals in Timmins in 1978. It became a family tradition that was passed on to his son, Ken.
Chick’s greatest pleasure was mentoring and guiding his children and grandchildren, particularly in the art of card playing.
He spent countless hours supporting his family and friends at the arena, as well as the outdoor rink on Cornwall.
His love of the outdoors, including special times spent at Kawawia, was engrained in his everyday life.
It was this enthusiasm that led to a special bond with Jamie Egan and Pete Drouin.
Chick was predeceased by his parents, Leslie and Velma Faragher; in-laws, Lyman and Mary Coughlin; sister-in-law, Pat Faragher; and infant brother, Donald.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lois, and their children, daughter, Shannon and husband, Ray Cameron, and their children, Logan and Sonja (Allen); daughter, Bonnie Cawston and her children, Brady, Manny (Jolene), and Tylar; and son, Ken and Andrea Faragher and their children, Kendyn and Asher.
Chick also leaves behind his brother, Harlan Faragher (Mary); sister, Marilyn and Lawrence Buttner; in-laws, Dale and Debbie Coughlin; as well as many special nieces, nephews, and friends.
A come-and-go celebration of life will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. at the Memorial Sports Centre auditorium in Fort Frances.
