It is with great sadness that the family of Katie Jourdain announces her passing on Friday, June 17, 2016, at the age of 25, at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ont.
She was born Nov. 24, 1990 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Curtis Jourdain and Geraldine Anderson.
She grew up in Couchiching First Nation with her father, Curtis, and brother, Joshua. She loved her community, attending and supporting every event, and recently had started to study and learn about her culture and embracing traditional ways.
She worked as a finance clerk for the band and was a volunteer firefighter for Couchiching. Katie also joined the C.W.L. at the age 16.
Katie had a large heart and loved to take care of animals. She constantly was feeding the strays and had taken in a cat, “Wasey,” who meant the world to her.
She especially enjoyed family times at the Thunderbird Restaurant while dining on her favourite course of a prime rib dinner and Long Island Tea.
Katie enjoyed golfing, driving around in her truck, and spending time with her friends. She also enjoyed time spent at Ashley’s home when the drummers were there.
Katie leaves behind her father, Curtis, of Couchiching First Nation and brother, Joshua, of Kenora; grandparents, Glen and Genevieve Jourdain of Couchiching First Nation, and Janice Carmody of St. Paul, Mn. and Gerald Anderson of Kansas City, Mo.; aunts, Connie (Darcy) Foster of Couchiching First Nation, Sandra (EJ) Bruyere of Devlin, Ont., and Christine Jourdain (Nathan Bruyere) of Fort Frances, Ont.; and cousins, Darren (Alice) Foster, Carly Foster, Lucas Jourdain, Travis Bruyere, and Aimee Anderson.
She also is survived by her best friend, Ashley Yerxa; niece, Bessie Mainville, and nephew, Bentley Mainville; mother, Geraldine Lusty and half-brothers, Aaron and William Lusty, all of Oklahoma; as well a large extended family.
Katie was predeceased by her grandfather, Bill Carmody; and great-grandparents, Terese and George Perreault and Janet and James Perreault.
Prayers will be offered Friday, June 24, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Deacon Bob Grynol officiating.
Our Lady of Lourdes CWL will offer a decade of the rosary.
Funeral mass will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Couchiching First Nation, with Fr. Victor De Gagné officiating.
Cremation will take place following the service.
The pallbearers will be Alison McIvor, Marc McPherson, Jeremy Jordan, Dylan Simard, Blake Yatchuk, and Daniel Morrisseau.
The honourary pallbearers will be Ashely Yerxa, Brenna (Bean) Adams, Paige Yatchuk, Valerie Norris, Carly Foster, Darren Foster, Lucas Jourdain, and Travis Bruyere.
