Kathleen Muriel White passed away peacefully at her home in Pinewood Court in Thunder Bay, Ont. on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 with family at her side.
Kaye was born July 20, 1915 at Weymouth, Dorset, England.
In 1923, she sailed with her mother to Canada to join her father in Fort William. She attended Drew Street School, where she made lifelong friends of the McEwen family.
After graduation from Fort William Collegiate, she attended McKellar School of Nursing, graduating in 1937.
While in training, she met and nursed her future husband, John W. White. They were married June 18, 1940 at Wolfe Island, Ont. She always liked to joke that she had spent her wedding night listening to France fall to the Germans.
Kaye worked part-time at McKellar until John became seriously ill in 1950, when she became evening supervisor at McKellar Hospital, a position she held until her retirement in 1970.
After retirement, she enjoyed travelling to visit family in England and trips to Europe, Alaska, and the Yukon, and in later years spending winters in Hawaii with her companion, Nick.
She always had “a long story” to tell.
Kaye was predeceased by her parents, Jane Anne and Harry Pells; her husband, John, in 1970; granddaughter, Jill Rea in 1964; and son-in-law, Ed Rea in 2002.
Kaye is survived by her daughters, Arlene Rea of Devlin, Ont. and Lynne Anne (Ray) McFeetors of Toronto, Ont.; grandchildren, Danny (Tracy) Rea and Mark (Glenna) Rea of Devlin, Ont., Marshall (Kerry) McFeetors of New York, Leah (Bill) Stamatis of Toronto, Ont., Holly (Russ) Sparks of Newmarket, Ont., and Drew (Erin) of Toronto; and nine great-grandchildren, Jessica and Jake Rea, Robbie and Shelby Rea, Annie and Henry McFeetors, Mielle and Esmé Stamatis, and Sadie Sparks.
A celebration of Kaye’s life was held Friday, May 14, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at Pinewood Court.
A family interment will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
