KATHLEEN (KAY) MODELAND

Kathleen (Kay) Modeland (née Martin), 86, of Atikokan, Ont., passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014.
Kathleen was born May 4, 1928 to Fred and Jennie Martin and grew up in La Vallee, where her father was the postmaster.
She came to Atikokan in September, 1947 to teach at the then-new Clark Street School, and subsequently enjoyed a teaching career that spanned more than 30 years.
It was here she met Barney Modeland. They were married Aug. 21, 1951 and raised their four children.
As a long-time resident, Kay was very proud of Atikokan, as well as the people who worked and volunteered to continue to make this the place she was happy to call home.
She was a member of the Riverview United Church, the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and the Retired Teachers of Ontario.
Kay always enjoyed the many visits and phone calls from friends and family.
She was an amazing mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt, neighbour, teacher, and friend.
Kay is survived by her children, Wade (Chris), Audrey (Mike) Antler, Roger, and Colleen; grandchildren, Joel (Hazel) Antler, Jennifer Antler, and Trisha (Matthew) Murphy; and great-grandchildren, Mayson, Erik, and Jamie.
She also is survived by her niece, Lisa Martin; sister-in-law, Jean Martin; nephew, Bill (Gail) Modeland; cousins, Mel (Eleanor) Martin, Walter (Jean) Martin, and Norma Law; and special friend, Lila (Brady) Bujold.
Kay was predeceased by her husband, Barney; her parents; sister, Audrey; and brother, Donald.
