Kathleen Joanne Roach, 68, of 1131 Church St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at home in the early-morning hours of Saturday, June 16, 2007.
Kathleen was born June 25, 1938 to Emeric (Pete) and Marie Klyne. She was born and raised in Fort Frances, where she lived her entire lifetime.
It is with much love that we, her family, advise that she lived life to the fullest and was loved by so many. At the age of 17, she married the love her life, William (Chuck) Roach.
Together they raised seven children and devoted their lives to family, friends, and hockey. She managed the hockey careers of her sons and grandsons.
Over her lifetime, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister, auntie, and friend. She was a natural caregiver and top-notch homemaker. She worked in the laundry room at the hospital and as a cleaning lady for many families.
Her greatest joys were gardening, swimming, reading, cooking, and baking for her family.
Mom’s family, from Fort Frances to Garden River F.N., was always first and foremost in her thoughts.
We all will be forever grounded as a family from her love of life, her resiliency, her strength, beauty, and dignity. In the past year, mom battled cancer and gave it her all. She was never one to give up and was still standing after each challenge.
However, a lady knows when it is time to leave and she departed this world, in her own time at peace with her beloved Joanne at her side.
Her home and gardens, which were her hearth and heart, provided a haven for a weary traveller, friend, and family. She was especially close to her siblings as she was a constant rock who always provided love and understanding of life’s challenges, hardships, and joys.
Every one of her nieces and nephews would tell you, she is my favourite auntie, as she never judged, just listened, and gave words of wisdom and advice.
She was predeceased by her husband, William; sons, John, Dan, Randy, and David; brothers, Harold and Rick; and niece, Luanne.
Kathleen will be forever loved and missed by her brother, Ernie; sisters, Donna (John) Wood, and Judy; and Kathleen’s children, Bill (Elfriede) of Quesnel, B.C., Sandra of Cowichan, B.C., Joanne, and Don (Jackie) and boys of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandchildren, Justin (Jen), Elizabeth, Alexander, and Jesse; and great-grandson, James.
She also is survived by an adoring multitude of nieces, nephews, sisters- and brothers-in-law, and extended family.
A private family interment took place. The family requests that any donations be made to the Fort Frances Public Library.
A celebration of her life took place at her home of 1131 Church St., hosted by her family, from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2007.
The honourary pallbearers were Ernie Klyne, John Wood, Dolly and Patrick Roach, Joe and Phyllis George, Madeline Tucker, Marie and Tito Veran, Lynn and Margaret Norris, Barb and Dempsey Calder, Lorna Baker, Dorothy Dokuchie, Jill Coran, and Eric Rude.
We ask that in your own way and time, you burn a candle, say a prayer, plant a flower, and wish for mom a beautiful journey. We, as a family, find solace in knowing she is flying with the eagles and in the arms of her loved ones in heaven.
We love and miss you, mommy.
“My mother had a kindness that embraced all life. She knew her place well and was comfortable in giving everything she had. This is the tradition of native women.” (Chief Dan George)
