Katherine Leek

In loving memory of Katherine Leek, 75, of Crozier Township, Ont., who passed away Thursday, June 6, 2002 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Katherine was born Aug. 26, 1926 in Holland to Adelbertus and Anna Maria Groot. On Feb. 10, 1954, she was united in marriage to Nicholas Leek and together, two weeks later, they emigrated to Canada.
They spent two years in Manitoba and then moved to Barwick, Ont. in 1956. They farmed for almost 40 years before moving to Crozier in 1995.
Katherine enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and needlepoint. She also was a member of the Catholic Women’s League.
She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas on Sept. 5, 1999; parents, Adelbertus and Anna Maria Groot; and brother, Ranier.
Katherine leaves behind her sons, Peter of Winnipeg, Man., Albert and wife, Kathleen, of Emo, Ont.; grandchildren, Melanie (Chris), Krista, Kevin, Julia, Anthony, and Christopher; daughter-in-law, Diane Leek of Fort Frances, Ont.; and three sisters and two brothers, all of Holland.
A prayer service was held Sunday, June 9, 2002 at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Emo, Ont.
Funeral mass was held Monday, June 10, 2002 at 2 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Emo. Fr. James Panikulam officiated, with interment in Chapple Cemetery in Barwick, Ont.
Pallbearers were Tim Vanderaa, George Oltsher, Chuck Arpin, Peter Zimmerman, Nelson Nighswander, and Ben Grant.
Honourary pallbearers were her grandchildren and Jackie Vanderaa.
