KATHERINE CAROL ROSE (QUIGLEY)

Rose, Kathy

Sadly, the family announces the passing of Kathy Rose, 61, of Rainy River, Ont., on Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Rainy River Health Centre, with her children by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Kathy was born on Oct. 5, 1955 in Dauphin, Man. to George and Selina Quigley, and raised in Ashville, Man. After high school, she worked at the hospital in Gilbert Plains, Man.
In 1975/76, she attended Central Bible College in Saskatoon, Sask., where she became friends with Dar Smith (Barker at the time), who convinced her to move to Fort Frances, Ont., where she met her husband, Larry.
They were married back in Gilbert Plains on June 9, 1978. Two-and-a-half years later, they welcomed their daughter, Patty, into the world and, three years later, their son, Mike.
While living in Fort Frances, Kathy worked as a receptionist at La Verendrye Hospital until the passing of Larry. She then went back to school to become an alcohol and drug addictions counsellor. Although she didn’t use that schooling, going through it helped her to make the decision to become a foster parent.
In 2004, she moved to Rainy River to be closer to her friends and church. Once in Rainy River, she continued to be a foster parent, as well as took on a job at the Rainy River clinic as a receptionist.
Being a foster parent was a struggle at times but she loved the 60+ children who came through her home and loved to see them succeed; they all were treated as part of her family.
Randi was one, in particular, that she was proud of, and was honoured to attend her wedding a few years back and see the amazing young lady she has become.
She also was proud of her son and daughter for everything that they overcame to be the people they are today. She was longing for grandchildren, which unfortunately she was not able to see that dream fulfilled.
However, we like to think she is up in Heaven snuggling with the ones that didn’t make it to Earth.
Besides spending time with family and friends, Kathy loved to go fishing, reading, making greeting cards, going for boat rides, and beating her daughter at cards.
It was hard to see her go, but we thank God for sending her to us for a while and are at peace knowing she no longer is suffering.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Patricia (Patty) and Todd Brannan of Stratton, Ont. and Michael Rose of Fort McMurray, Alta.; her siblings, Dorothy Serre, Joyce (Ray) Serre, Owen (Cathy) Quigley, and Debbie (Al) Arndt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence (2001); brother, Leslie Quigley; and her parents, George and Selina.
A service of celebration and remembrance will be held Friday, June 16, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont., with Rev. Bob Lapos and Rev. Dar Smith officiating.
Interment will take place in Burriss Cemetery.
The honourary pallbearers will be Bea Neilson, Laura Putz, Dianna Gamsby, Norina Sopotiuk, Gwen Halverson, Felicity Jack, Stephanie Ivall, Dr. Singleton, Dr. Ennett, and Dr. Carron.
If so desired, in memoriam donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or the Rainy River Hospital Auxiliary c/o Northridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 89, Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0.
