It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a great wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Karilyn Edale Jack, on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the age of 47 at Riverside Health Care Facilities in Fort Frances, Ont. with her family by her side.
She was born June 2, 1962 in Rainy River, Ont. and lived in Big Grassy all her life.
She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Edith Jack; and sister, Marilyn.
Karilyn will be sadly missed by her husband, Dennis; sons, Nathan Sr. (Allison) and Tristin; daughter, Stacey (Cameron); grandsons, Nathan Jr. and Hayden; sisters, Karen (Ernest) and Dianne (Joseph); brother, Fred Sr.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Karilyn, known to many as “Honey,” devoted her life to her family and enjoyed nothing more than when her family got together, especially during Christmas.
Aside from her love of family, she enjoyed making star blankets, hand drumming, dancing at pow-wows, playing baseball, and fishing. She brought a smile to those around her with her sharp wit and fun sense of humour.
Karilyn worked for the First Nation for more than 20 years, and obtained her economics degree at the University of Manitoba. She also opened her home and heart as a caregiver for Weech-it-te-win Family Services for 16 years.
A wake service is being held Wednesday, June 10, 2009 from 2 p.m. at the Big Grassy First Nation Community Hall.
A traditional funeral service will be held Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Big Grassy First Nation Community Hall, with Elder Kenny McKinney officiating.
Interment to follow at Big Grassy Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Fred Jack Jr., Robert Indian Sr., Leland Indian, Elvis Adams, Ian Copenace, and Steven Jack.
