In loving memory of Kanita Joy Gingrich, who passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at the age of 22 years, nine months, and 14 days, at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. following a brief struggle with pneumonia.
Kanita was born to Leon and Karen (Stauffer) Gingrich on April 23, 1994 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances.
At birth, she was hospitalized for two weeks and eventually diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
Her great sense of humour and love for good music helped her cope with the many limitations in her life. Her forgiving and giving spirit were endearing.
Kanita will be dearly missed by her parents and her three caring sisters, Lucy, Kristalyn, and Lynette; grandparents, Aden and Martha Gingrich of Mine Centre, Ont., and Elvin Stauffer of Tower City, Pa.; and great-grandparent, Ivan Martin, of Richland, Pa.
She also is fondly remembered by numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Geraldine Stauffer, and uncle, Wesley Stauffer.
Kanita attended the Mine Centre Mennonite Church with her family. She went through 10 years of schooling at North Star Christian Day School.
Throughout the next seven years, many loving caregivers helped Kanita with therapy and projects at her little store, Kanita’s Kountry Kraft Korner.
Kanita was very attached to each of her caregivers.
Visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017 at the Pineview Mennonite Church in Barwick, Ont.
The funeral was held Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Barwick Community Hall in Barwick, with interment at the Pineview Mennonite Church Cemetery.
