It is with great sadness that the family of Judson (Jud) Hartlin announces his sudden passing at his residence on Wedneday, Nov. 2, 2011.
Jud was born Nov. 25, 1926 to the late Marcus and Amy Hartlin of Burriss, Ont.
Jud was predeceased by his wife, Hilda (nee Johnson); sisters, Martha Allan and Sabina Scott; and brother, William Hartlin.
Jud will be lovingly remembered by his children, Gerrald (Evie) of Emo, Ont., Earl (Patricia) of Fort Frances, Ont., and Mervon (Brenda) and Dale (Kyla) of Emo, Ont.
Also left to mourn are his grandchildren, Noreen (Dan), Gregory (Marie), Joshua (Allison), Sara (Alex), Taylor, Nicole, Heather (John), Curtis (Karlene), Dawson, Preston, and MacKenzie.
Grandpa Hartlin had the ability to make his grandchildren smile simply by talking to them and telling them his stories.
Jud also leaves behind his two great-grandchildren, Henry and Howard; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jud also is survived by his sisters-in-law, Mary Hartlin, Ellen Armstrong, Ruth Gray, and Irene Hughes; and brother-in-law, Jack Watson.
As a young man, Jud strip cut, felled, and skidded timber on a full-time basis up until he was hired at the paper mill in Fort Frances in April, 1966. Jud worked up through the line of progression to lead operator of the new woodroom.
He retired from the mill in June, 1990.
Jud always enjoyed working in his garden. His enthusiasm for working in the garden earned him the nickname “Pa Spud.”
In his retirement, Jud took pleasure in woodworking, listening to old-time music, and spending time with family and friends. In recent years, he could be spotted cruising about town on his electric scooter.
No matter what the weather, he always managed to make it down to the coffee shop for his afternoon soup.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 7, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont., with Rev. Frances Flook officiating.
Interment followed in the Emo Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Bill Johnson, Herb Johnson, Dennis Pelepetz, Gary Pelepetz, Dennis Allen, and Jim Allen.
