Joyce Cunningham passed away suddenly on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in Thunder Bay, Ont.
She was born Saturday, April 8, 1939 in Winnipeg, Man. She was the only child of Pat and Mary Crawford.
On July 17, 1962, Joyce was united in marriage to Don Cunningham. They had one child, a daughter, Patricia.
After receiving her education in Manitoba and Ontario, Joyce taught English at Fort Frances High School for many years, sharing her love of literature and language with her students.
She then became a Teacher-Librarian—a position she held until her retirement.
Joyce was involved in the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation, holding many different positions both locally and provincially.
After retirement, Joyce focused her time and energy on libraries. She was a member of the Fort Frances Library Board, as well as the Ontario Library Service-North and Ontario Library Boards’ Association.
Joyce was one of many dedicated citizens who fought tirelessly to raise funds and plan for the construction of a new library. The completion of this project brought her great joy.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Don; as well as her brother-in-law, Ted Cunningham, and his wife, Doris.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia; brother-in-law, Deane Cunningham and his wife, June; sister-in-law, Doreen Buffington and her husband, Larry; as well as cousins, nephews, and nieces.
At Joyce’s request there will be no service.
