JOYCE MARIE (YERXA) CANTIN

In loving memory of Joyce Marie (Yerxa) Cantin, of Wabigoon Lake First Nation, who passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011.
Joyce was born May 26, 1941 in Fort Frances, Ont.
On Jan. 1, 1960, she married Birdie Cantin Sr., with whom she had five children.
Some of Joyce’s hobbies were knitting, sing-a-longs, and playing poker. She was proud of her children who are musically inclined as music was a big part of her life.
Joyce was unique . . . one of a kind. She was involved with the Chamber of Commerce, the Native Friendship Board, and volunteering her time helping at Wabigoon Lake First Nation and Eagle Lake First Nation pow-wows.
Joyce also loved to visit friends and family.
Joyce is survived by her children, Bert of Kenora, Ont., Robert (Mary) of Sioux Lookout, Ont., Roberta (James) of Kenora, Ont., Robecca of Dryden, Ont., and Birdie Jr. (Shaun) of Dryden, Ont.; grandson, Freddie; and great-grandchildren, Tyrus, Kailee, and Ceasar.
She also is survived by her brothers, Willie (Florence) Yerxa of Couchiniching First Nation, Wayne Yerxa of Couchiniching First Nation, and Leo Yerxa of Ottawa, Ont.; and sister Marilyn of Couchiniching First Nation.
She was predeceased by her husband, Birdie Cantin Sr.; parents, Robert and Frances Yerxa; brother, Robert Jr.; sisters, Betty, Florence, and Dorothy; and granddaughter, Kailee Cantin.
Visitation was held Wednesday, June 8, 2011 from 10 a.m. until time of service at the Wabigoon First Nation School gymnasium.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Wabigoon First Nation School gymnasium, with Elder Robert Kelly and John Cofield officiating.
Interment followed in the Wabigoon First Nation Cemetery.
