On Saturday April 19, 2008, at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont., Joyce J. McQuaker of Emo, Ont. passed away after a valiant battle with coronary artery disease at the age of 72.
She was born in Sioux Lookout, Ont. on April 13, 1936. Joyce came to Thunder Bay, Ont. as an infant and resided there until 1992, when she and her husband, Ron, retired to Emo.
Joyce worked at the Port Arthur General Hospital for several years, after which she worked for the City of Thunder Bay in the Parks and Recreation Department, retiring as assistant supervisor of concessions and operations.
In Emo, Joyce worked with the Legion Br. #99 Ladies Auxiliary, cooking for banquets. She became well-known in the Emo community.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Ron, of 42 years; three sons, David, Barry, and Kirk (Karen), and two daughters, Debbie Hebert (Roy) and Sheri Horbachewski (Bill), all of Thunder Bay, Ont.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by an infant son, Bruce, in 1966; her beloved oldest grandson, Jason, in 1988; her much-loved granddaughter, Mary-Lynn in 1999; and her parents, Hazel and Fletcher Gill.
As per Joyce’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
Family and friends are welcome to join in a time of remembrance on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 from 7-9 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo.
Interment will take place at a later date.
