It is with great sadness that the family of Joshua Robert Ottertail announces his passing on Saturday, June 4, 2022, in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Josh was born on September 6, 1991, in Fort Frances, Ont., to Angus Oshawee and Shauna Ottertail. He grew up in Lac La Croix First Nation, Thunder Bay and Fort Frances. He loved being outdoors, fishing and hunting and enjoyed living in Northwestern Ontario. He enjoyed music and writing. He enjoyed spending time with family and making big meals for them. He was so excited and looking forward to welcome his daughter Lily Anne into this world this summer.
He will be greatly missed by his partner Georgia Wenjack; mother Shauna Ottertail (Chris Henderson); father Angus Oshawe; grandparents Lillian and Henry Ottertail; siblings Alyssa (Tyler) and her children Draven and Seneca, Cadence, River, Mel, Teri-Ann, Dana, Zaje Hikari and Jazh; aunts and uncles
Ira (Faith), Brett, Vivian (Ralph) and Ryan (Odette); cousins Jared (Kelsey), Nigel, Nicole (Rodney) and Paul; as well as numerous great aunts, uncles and extended family.
Josh was predeceased by his sister Cristal Henderson; uncle Rob Ottertail; great uncles Robert and Raymond Ottertail; grandparents Angus and Janet Oshawe, Gilbert and Ida Oshawe, Annie and Bob Ottertail, Clara and George Ottertail and William and Sally Smith.
A traditional funeral ceremony was held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at the Lac La Croix First Nation Community with Elder Tommy Councillor officiating.
The pallbearers were Josh’s family and friends.
The honourary pallbearers were Brian Smith, Clay Ottertail, Dorian Whitecrow, Chris Big George, Pierre Jourdain, Trion Jourdain, Conrad Jourdain, Nigel Kelly, Paul Kelly, Ira Ottertail, Brett Ottertail, Jared Ottertail, River Henderson and Richard Boshey.
