JOSEPHINE MARY MEILLEUR

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Josephine Mary Meilleur at Rainyrcest in Fort Frances, Ont. on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009 with family by her side.
Josephine was born May 12, 1918 to the late Effie Isabel Deaver and Alfred Clairmont, and lived the first 46 years of her life in Fisher Branch, Man.
She came from a large family, growing up with seven brothers, Art, Eugene, Frank, Louis, Albert, Napoleon, and Joseph, and three sisters, Clara, Agnes, and Mary.
Josephine met Jean Cournoyer through family friends and they were married on Jan. 24, 1940. They had their only son, Leonard Francis Jean Cournoyer.
Josephine lost her husband, Jean Cournoyer, in 1957 to cancer and continued to operate the family farm while bringing up Leonard on her own.
Josephine met Ralph Meilleur, who was originally from Fisher Branch, Man. and had come back from Northwestern Ontario while trapping and prospecting in his earlier years in the Atikokan and Perch Lake area.
Josephine and Ralph married Aug. 9, 1958, sold her farm, and moved to Crozier, Ont. While living in Crozier, she enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, and cooking for family and friends when they came by.
Josephine lost Ralph in 1981, and in 1984 she moved to an apartment in Flinders Place in Fort Frances, where she resided on her own for more than 25 years.
She moved to Rainycrest in July, 2009 at 91 years of age.
Josephine was known to have a generous heart, always giving many gifts with love and appreciation to family, friends, and acquaintances.
Josephine also was predeceased by her brothers, Frank, Louis, Joseph, Napoleon, and Albert; and sisters, Agnes and Mary.
She will be sadly missed by her son, Leonard Cournoyer (Barbara); granddaughters, Mellisa (Lindsey, Casey, and Reed) and Michelle; and grandsons, Micheal (Chantel), Brent (Shelly, Brit, Brayden, and Emily), and John (and family).
Also surviving are her brothers, Art and Eugene (Audrey); sister, Clara Tremblay; numerous nieces and nephews; close lifetime friends, Maurice and Elzier DesJardins and all their family from Fisher Branch, Man. and area; cousins, Betty and Jay McKee; and close friends, Susie Johnstone, Irene Skirten, Margie Gibson, and Margaret Wilson.
At Josephine’s request, a service will take place at a later date in Fisher Branch, Man.
