Joseph William Puszynski, 79, passed away suddenly Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
He was born Oct. 17, 1924 to Sophia and Michael Puszynski. He had lived all his life in Fort Frances.
He served in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1944-45, first as a radio artificer and then as a petty officer. When he returned home, he joined the local paper mill, working as an electronic technician, retiring in 1982 at the age of 58.
Joseph enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and was an avid collector. He also was a great fan of the library and had a deep respect for the work of the Salvation Army.
Joseph was an academic and spent his life pursuing academics.
Joseph was predeceased by his father, Michael; mother, Sophia Pasternak; stepfather, Peter Pasternak; and an infant brother, William.
He leaves behind his sister, Mary Theresa and her husband, John Sontorovich, of International Falls, Mn.; niece Susan (Jerry) Vergona and great-nephew, Jerry Paul, all of Wayne, Mich.; nephew, John Michael (Mary) Sontorovic of Houston, Tex.; cousins, Stephanie Starmski of International Falls, Mn., Ed Michaluk of Fort Frances, Ont., Jane Reczynski of Welland, Ont., Mary Olynyk of Toronto, Ont., and Frank Yuskow of Timmins, Ont.; and dear friends, Eileen Kylmko of Fort Frances, Ont., Jo-Anne and Doug McCaig, and Florence and John Chornabay, and their families.
Parish prayers will be offered Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003 at 7 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances. Fr. Rey Ronquillo will officiate, with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Pallbearers will be Allan Robertson, Doug McCaig, Mark McCaig, Ed Zub, Tom Kittle, and Bill Fontana.
The Honour Guard will be provided by the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 Colour Party.
