Joseph Ronald Milliard, 80, of Rainy River, Ont., passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Ron was born Oct. 25, 1930 to Roy and Anne Milliard.
After graduation from high school, Ron worked for the railroad for a time before becoming a Customs officer. Ron worked for Canada Customs in Fort Frances and Rainy River until retirement in September, 1991 after 34 years of service.
He enjoyed all sports, especially baseball.
Ron is survived by his brother, Patrick (Donna) Milliard of Baudette, Mn.; nephew, Tim (Janice) Milliard and their children, Jonathon and Bryan, of Sleepy Eye, Mn.; and niece, Patricia (Stephen) Czapiewski and children, Zachary and Zoe, of Rochester, Mn.
Ron also is survived by cousins, Alex McMillan of Quibell, Ont. and Gail Hanford of Port Severn, Ont., and Francis of Thunder Bay, Ont.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Rainy River, Ont., with Rev. George Chojko-Bolec officiating.
The pallbearers will be John Amundsen, Gary Armstrong, Don Gale, Cam Hanson, John Rossborough, and Dan Usiski.
The honourary pallbearers will be John Laevens and Manny Nordin.
Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River, Ont. at a later date.
