JOSEF (JOE) LUDWIG SCHAUM

Josef (Joe) Ludwig Schaum, 62, of Devlin, Ont., passed away Sunday, March 26, 2000 at the Emo Hospital in Emo, Ont. after a long struggle with cancer.
Joe was born March 18, 1938 in Germany to Anna Maria and Josef Schaum, and immigrated to London, Ont. at the age of 16 with his family.
In 1980, he moved to Rainy River District and was noted for his work in the field of construction, especially for his skill as a heavy duty equipment operator.
Joe was predeceased by his sons, Joseph in 1977 and Thomas in 1998; and his parents, Anna Maria and Josef Schaum.
He is survived by his brothers, Carl (Margrit) of Fort Frances, Ont., and Helmut (Hilde) of London, Ont.
Also surviving is his daughter-in-law, Angelique of Mississauga, Ont.; nephew, Carl P. Schaum (Debbie) and their children, Jessie and Carly, of Emo, Ont.; niece, Doris Temple (Larry) and their children, Justin, Jonathan, and Jennifer of Stratford, Ont.; niece, Caren Siegfried (Tim) of Rochester, Mn.; niece, Ingrid Schaum and her daughter, Sarah, of Devlin, Ont.; nephew, Marcus Schaum of London, Ont., and niece, Martina Angell and her son, Shane, of London, Ont.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 31, 2000 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Emo. Father James Panikulam will officiate, with interment in Emo Cemetery in Emo.
Friends and family are invited to visit from 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2000 at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, with parish prayers being offered at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Carl P. Schaum, Marcus Schaum, Harold McQuaker, Brad Norris, Joe Gepp, and Don Witherspoon.
Honourary pallbearers will be Jake Kehler, Don Marsh, Harold Dennis, Albin Putzer, and Walter Engelman.
