With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jonathan Paul Fryer on September 4, 2021.

He was born on January 10, 1959, in Fort Frances. Jon attended Westfort and Fort Frances High School, playing Muskie football and hockey and competing on Reach for the Top. He played Junior Hockey for the Kenora Thistles of the MJHL. Jon then attended the University of Manitoba and continued his education, becoming a transplant surgeon and professor of medicine at Northwestern University.

Jon is survived by his wife Sonya Sharpless and son Conor Fryer of Chicago; sister Doneen Moran of Calgary, brother Ron Fryer (Lorina) of Fort Frances; and neices and nephew Aidan Bagnall (Kevin), Liam Craig (Kevin) and family of Calgary, Shanleigh Fryer of Costa Rica and Kassidy Fryer of Fort Frances.

He was predeceased by his parents Bob and Doreen Fryer.

A private memorial will be held. A mass will be said in his memory on Tuesday, August 9 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances.
