It is with great sadness that the family of Johnnie Helton Craig Jr. “John” announce his sudden passing on August 5, 2025, at his home in Devlin, Ont.
John was Born to Jean and Johnnie Craig Sr. on February 20, 1964, in Hammond, Indiana, and as a young man moved to the Rainy River District where he would spend the rest of his years.
Those who knew John, knew his passion for hunting and fishing. From a young age his passion began when he was working at New Moon Lodge Camp in Morson, Ontario. He told fond stories of his many years at camp with the Moens and very much enjoyed his time meeting new people and showing them his prized fishing spots.

John then moved on to open his own hunting camp “Grey Ghost Outfitters”, which he put many years of dedication into. He loved walking for hours in the bush and finding new places to spend time and show off to his family. He loved spending time at his outpost cabins and teaching the kids how to catch suckers out of the creek.
When he wasn’t out in the wilderness or chasing wildlife he could also be found running many different types of heavy equipment, a skill he loved to show off and was very talented at. He would always have photos of whatever machine he was running recently and loved to talk you through the process of the job he was working on.
John was also a truck driver for many years, working for various local companies and then owning his own logging truck, he always loved to take his kids along on the road with him any chance he got.
John is predeceased by his parents Johnnie Craig Sr. and Jean Craig; grandparents Florence and Norman Byerly; mother-in-law Margaret Wilson.
Surviving family are Ann Craig; kids Colton Craig (Kenzie), Chelsey Kaun (Nick); grandson Bowen Kaun; father-in-law Bob Wilson; brother-in-law Tylar Wilson (Missy); niece Libby Wilson (Justin); as well several nieces and nephews.
