JOHN WALTER LAW
John Walter Law, 82, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Monday, Oct. 8, 2007 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ont. due to complications from a recent surgery.
John was born Jan. 3, 1925 in Fort Frances, Ont. He worked for the CN Railway for 39 years, following in his father’s footsteps. He was a hard worker and very dedicated to his profession.
John was a longtime member of St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Fort Frances, where he never hesitated to help out in whatever capacity was needed of him.
He also enjoyed his weekly coffee club meetings with the guys, where they would reminisce about anything and everything.
John found out he was a diabetic in his 20s, and from that time forward became quite knowledgeable about this disease and supported the Diabetes Foundation throughout his life.
John is survived by his mother, Doris Law, of Fort Frances, Ont.; brother, Nick (Joyce) Law of Brandon, Man.; sister, Doris McFee of Wainwright, Alta.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 15, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Fr. Jaroslaw Buciora officiated, followed by interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends visited with the family on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007 from 7-8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, with prayers being held at 7:30 p.m.
The pallbearers were David Law, Lorne Helsip, Murray Heller, Jim Bliss, Rick Bliss, and Tony Bliss.
The honorary pallbearers were Joe Bliss, Fred Beck, Bill Wepruk, Paul Wepruk, and Alex Socholotuk.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to everyone who attended the services, sent cards and food, or just had us in their thoughts.
John will be sadly missed, but we know in our hearts he is now free of pain and he has joined the rest of his family that predeceased him.
