John Richard Murray Kelso went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at the age of 59 in Oliver, B.C.
John is survived by his wife, Donna; daughters, Kristy Collins (David) and Kimberly Smith; three grandchildren, Kyle and Chelsi Smith, and Brendan Collins; mother-in-law, Chris Joynes; sister-in-law, Diane Oliver (Darcy); brother-in-law Jim Joynes; and three nieces.
John was predeceased by his parents, Murray and Jean Kelso.
John was born in Kingston, Ont. but spent most of his life in Northern Ontario, where he enjoyed the outdoors. John did most of his growing up around Fort Frances and Mine Centre, where he left part of his heart.
John attended university in Guelph and Winnipeg. While attending university, he spent many summers working for the Ministry of Natural Resources on the lakes in the Fort Frances area.
After graduation, John worked two years for the MNR in Port Dover and then spent 29 years doing fisheries-related research for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, first in Burlington and then Sault Ste. Marie.
John also was well-known and respected in the bagpipe band circles of Canada, the United States, and Scotland.
John and Donna moved to Oliver in the spring of 2001 to enjoy retirement. John was a man of many talents, with a big heart, who will be greatly missed by many.
A memorial service was held Saturday, May 22, 2004 in Oliver. Arrangements made by Graham Funeral Home.
