It is with heavy hearts that the family of John Michael Angus, aged 54, announces his passing on June 1, 2025, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loved ones.
John was born on March 26, 1971, to Donald and Sharon Angus in Fort Frances, Ontario.
John will be sadly missed by his wife Lisa; his sons Austin (Jillian), Tanner (Tarlia); his mother Sharon Angus; his siblings Wayne Angus (Cheryl) and Lisa Armstrong (Rob); sister-in-law Lori Wright (Charlie); his nieces and nephews Amanda Angus (Dan) and family, Jeff Angus (Rhianna) and family, Jason Angus (Sara) and family, Alyssa Armstrong (Nick), Justin Angus (Victoria), Nicole Stouffer (Chris) and family, Kristine Kolodropski (Steve) and family; his aunts Merle Warner, Bev Angus, Linda Hill, Mary Kosola, Genie Lennox; his uncles Frank Strain (Monique), Sam Lennox; his special cousins from the Avis, Angus, Hill, Miller, Strain, Kosola, Lennox, Nygard families, and special friend Jordan Taggart who he considered his ‘third son.’

John is predeceased by his father Donald Angus; grandparents Derward and Helma Angus, Sid and Virginia Avis (John Reid Sr.); brother Mark Angus; sister-in-law Karen Angus; nephew Joey Angus; his in-laws Fay and Leslie Kosola; and aunts and uncles Leonard Hill, Larry Angus, Ted Avis (Connie), Marion Reece (Bill), Bill Miller and Alan Warner.
John met the love of his life, Lisa, through his cousin Carolyn. Soon after meeting, John and Lisa began dating. Lisa made the move from Thunder Bay to Fort Frances, where they started their life together. They were married on August 29, 1997.
The following August, John and Lisa brought into the world two beautiful baby boys, Austin and Tanner. From that day forward, they were John’s everything, he devoted his entire life to providing for his family.
John enjoyed spending his days with his family at the Angus family cabins (where he, Lisa, and the boys took pride in building their own cabin and sauna), hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and entertaining family and friends.
John spent his early career working at the paper mill in Fort Frances for 23 years. After the mills closing, John worked various jobs, from working out west to plowing highways and even working a local milk run until he gained employment at New Gold Rainy River Mines. John started at the mine as a heavy equipment operator. He then moved to the Mill as a Lube Technician and subsequently went on to a Mill Maintenance Planning position. John was fortunate to make many lifelong friendships through his employment opportunities.
John was a very selfless person who always put others before himself. Proof of this is when he was awarded the Ontario Junior Citizen of the Year award in 1990, for pulling two people who had fallen through the ice with no consideration for his own life or safety.
Throughout John’s life he had battled with several different health issues, with cancer being his final fight. He was a warrior and never let this stop him from living his life to the fullest right up until his very last days; staying true to the person he always was happy, helpful, humorous and always thinking of others.
We would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Robert Nugent, the wonderful team of ladies at the chemo unit, and Dr. Del Paggio for their love, care, and compassion throughout John’s journey.
A celebration of life will be held in memory of John at the Fort Frances Royal Canadian Legion on June 12, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
