John Makarenko, 74, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances on Thursday, July 17, 2003.
John was born June 16, 1929 in Fort Frances and had lived here all his life. He worked for 23 years for the Fort Frances-Rainy River Board of Education as a purchasing agent.
He enjoyed reading, gardening, and going for coffee to the A&W. He also was very fond of his dog, “Molly.”
John’s family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, were a very big part of his life. He will always be their “Papa John.”
John leaves behind his daughter, Janice and husband, Jim Chabot, of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandchildren, Travis, Anneda and husband, Jason Supinski, and James Chabot; and great-grandchildren, Aric and Joshua Supinski.
He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Rose Makarenko; brothers, George, Sid, and Bill; and sisters, Mary, Lena, Dora, Rose, and Nettie.
At John’s request, cremation has taken place in Thunder Bay, Ont., and a private service will be held for his family and close friends.
The honourary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Travis Chabot, James Chabot, and Jason Supinski.
