It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Smeeth on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006 at the age of 80.
Jack was born July 9, 1926 in Fort Frances, Ont. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Dorothy Seger on July 25, 1945 at Knox United Church.
They celebrated 60 wonderful years together—the majority of them on their farm in Miscampbell, where he grew up.
Jack enjoyed his years on the farm, where he and Evelyn raised their four children. He enjoyed working on the farm, and he also worked for several years on the toll bridge.
As well, he had a sawmill, drove truck, and cut pulp wood in his earlier years.
Jack enjoyed an active social life with his wife, Evelyn. They were members of a bowling league. They also loved to travel and spend time with family and friends.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and going on camping trips. He also loved to get together with friends to play cards.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Frances for many years.
He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn; his parents, Cornelius and Alice; and his two sisters; Ella Bujold and Dolly Bruce.
Jack is survived by his four children, Sandi (Brian) Sissons, Ron (Lana) Smeeth, Sherri (Michael) Smeeth, and Dan (Kathy) Smeeth.
He also leaves behind his grandchildren, whom he loved very much, Carrie (James) Nytrai, Chris Smeeth, Crystal Sissons, Darren (Kora) Sissons, Kyle Smeeth, and Ashley Smeeth; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Brian Keffer officiating.
Honourary pallbearers will be all of his many special friends.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations can be made to Riverside Health Care Facilities, Inc./CT scan or the charity of your choice.
