John Kowalchuk, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 29, 2004 at La Verendrye Hospital here.
He ws born April 18, 1924 to Katherine and Pete Kowalchuk in Fort Frances. He was united in marriage to his loving wife, June Zawchenuk, on May 26, 1950. They were married for 54 years.
John joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and had served in Canada. He also worked with Boise Cascade Canada for more than 43 years, retiring as a mechanical supervisor on Dec. 31, 1985.
He was a member of St. George’s Ukrainian Church in Fort Frances and sang in the choir for many years.
He was predeceased by his father, Pete, and mother, Katherine.
John is survived by his wife, June; and two sons, John M. (Nancy) Kowalchuk and daughter, Hana, of Strathroy, Ont., and Bill Kowalchuk of Kitchener, Ont., and his son, Alexander, and daughter, Katelyn.
Also surviving are his sister, Mary Pawlick of Hamilton, Ont., and her sons, John and Mark; brother, Mark (Sadie) Kowalchuk of Fort Frances, Ont., and their son, Mark Kowalchuk Jr., and daughter, Linda (Al) Rajala; as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
He loved his family very much.
A visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 from 7 until 9 p.m., with parish prayers being offered at 7:30 p.m., at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, with rev. Fr. Michael Kopchuk and Cantor Nelson Rogoza officiating.
