John Joseph Plichta, 81, of 304 Victoria Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in Thunder Bay, Ont.
He was born Dec. 7, 1927 in Boissevain, Man. to the late Joseph and Axana Plichta.
In earlier years, John belonged to the Kinsman, Kiwanis, and Oddfellows. He retired after 25 year as co-owner of Modern Plumbing & Heating.
He enjoyed cooking, bowling, golfing, and, in his retirement, woodworking.
John will be lovingly missed by his wife of 22 years, Georgina, and her family, son, Edward (Kelly), Patricia (Jim) Vanden Ende, Renee Plichta, Gordon (Cindy), and Ninette (David) Chreitien; grandchildren, Paula Plichta, Patrick (Genevieve), Raina (Mike) Burgess, Jonathan Rogoza, Moriah Rogoza, Alex Wolf, Nathan and Jessica (Brent) Lundy, and Stefany and Karmyn Chreitien; and great-grandchildren, Erik and Sarah Gustafson, and Finian Lundy.
Also surviving are his sisters, Jean (Joe) Olynyk, Elma (Stan) Wepruk, Dorothy (Bill) Wepruk, and Ann (Larry) Wood; sister-in-law, Donna Plichta; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother and father; sisters, Helen, Mary, and infant sister, Kay; and one brother, Nick.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service to celebrate John’s life will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Fort Frances Covenant Church (1727 King’s Highway), with Pastor Ken Johnson officiating.
Honourary pallbearers will be Stan Wepruk, John Elyk, Alex Gawryluk, Ken Bekesi, Ernie Ling, John Bradley, and Garry Gregory.
