JOHN JOSEPH FLANAGAN

John Joseph Flanagan passed away peacefully at the Brantwood Lifecare Centre in Burlington, Ont. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999 in his 85th year.
Loving husband of the late Adina Eck, and special father to his three children, Donna (Robert Terry) of Flamborough, Sharon (Ken Johns) of Maxville, and Richard of Toronto.
He will be missed by his six grandchildren, Eric (Joanne) of Markham, Sandra (John) and Glenn (Dawn) of Burlington, Susan (Wayne) of Waterdown, Heather of Cornwall, and Brian of Waterloo; and three great-grandchildren, Krystal, Jordan, and Julie.
John also is survived by his brother, Claude of Brandon, Man.
He was predeceased by his sister, Eileen; and stepbrothers, Fred, Harry, Frank, and Ernie.
Originally from Fort Frances, Ont., John and Adina also lived in Gimli, Man., and Blind River, Cochrane, Port Hope, and Burlington, Ont.
John served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII, and was an employee of the Department of Highways/M.T.C. for 43 years. He was an elder of Knox Presbyterian Church in Burlington, and a committed volunteer for the Burlington Red Cross-Blood Donor Clinic, the Royal Canadian Legion, and the Canadian Cancer Society.
John is remembered as a passionate reader, skilled carpenter, enthusiastic curler, and avid walker.
Visitation was at Smith’s Funeral Home in Burlington on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999 from 10 a.m. until time of a service to celebrate John’s life at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to the Alzheimer Society or the Canadian Blood Services would be appreciated by the family.
