John “Jack” (red) Pershing Monrean, 80, of International Falls, Mn. passed away Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998 at his home with his family at his side.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998 at 11 a.m. at Evangelical Covenant Church of International Falls, with the Pastor Larry Connors officiating. Military honours will be provided by VFW Post #2948 of International Falls.
The family will greet guests one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Following cremation, interment will be at the Birchdale Cemetery in Birchdale, Mn. under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck, Mn.
Pallbearers will be Elmer Kittelson, Livio Lucca, Donald DeRaad, Levi Larson, Gerald Logdahl, Steven Plasky, Michael Plasky, Kevin Lind, Dani Lind Jr., Todd Monrean, John Monrean, and Randy Monrean Jr.
Jack was born July 14, 1918 in International Falls, the son of Grover and Delia (Ogren) Monrean. He has lived in the area all his life except for three years he lived in Florida while serving in the U.S. Navy from Nov. 3, 1942 to Nov. 4, 1945. He was honourably discharged with the rank of Seaman 1st Class.
He married Mary Welechenko of Fort Frances, Ont., on May 21, 1944 in International Falls. He worked for Mando and Boise Cascade for 44 years as a maintenance worker and tinsmith.
He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing with his dog, “Rex,” and making fishing tackle. He spent most of his spare time by the Franz Jevene State Park in Birchdale, selling minnows and visiting.
He enjoyed the people he met there, and made some great friendships along the way.
He is survived by his wife Mary Monrean of International Falls; five children, Dennis (Shellie) Monrean of International Falls, Judy (John) Plasky of fort Frances, Beverly (Dani) Lind of Cannon Falls, Mn., Randy (Carole) Monrean of Florence, Mont., and Steven (Mary Jo) Monrean of Detroit Lakes, Mn.; two sisters, Norma (Ross) Trott of International Falls, Mn., and Helen (Einar) Palm of Colombia, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Annie (Jamie) Dahl of International Falls, Mn., Jacki Monrean of Duluth, Mn., John Monrean of International Falls, Mn., Steven Plasky of Roosevelt, Mn., Michael Plasky of Fort Frances, Ont., Kevin Lind of Cannon Falls, Mn., Dani Lind Jr., of Cannon Falls, Mn., Randy (Theresa) Monrean, Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska; Todd Monrean of Missoula, Mt., Stephanie Monrean of California, and Owen Peterson of Rice Lake, Wis.; and four great-grandchildren, Justyn, Erin, Mathew, and Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Audry, Mernsey, and Fred Monrean; one sister, Emelyn Pelland and one granddaughter, Wendy Monrean.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
