JOHN ERNEST DOUPE

John Ernest Doupe, 71, of Rockdale, Richmond Co., St. Peter’s, Nova Scotia, formerly of Fort Frances Ont., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008 in the Strait Richmond Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Fort Frances, Ont. on June 9, 1937, he was the son of the late Bill and Mary Doupe.
He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels parish, and also was a member of the parish choir and the parish council, as well as a past president of the L’Ardoise Jolly Club.
Ernie served in the navy for 25 years, with five of these years served on British submarines and the remainder stationed in Esquimalt, B.C.
After leaving the navy, Ernie worked as a truck driver and later was employed by the Canadian Coast Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Anna (Martel); son, Clifford of Prince Rupert, B.C.; daughter, Alexandra (Peter) Swiminer of Dartmouth, N.S.; and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are his brothers, Edward (Agnes) of Clarenville, Nfld., Donald (Adele) of Winnipeg, Man., and Cliff (Brenda) of Creston, B.C.
He was predeceased by his son, Russell, in 1990.
He rested in Holy Guardian Angels Funeral Parlour on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009 from 7-9 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 24, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral mass was offered Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 at 11 a.m. from Holy Guardian Angels Church, with Rev. Barrett Claire Johnson presiding.
Burial followed in the parish cemetery.
