It is with regret that we announce the passing of John Dick Jr. of Fort Frances, Ont., at the age of 84, on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
He peacefully went home to be with his Lord.
John was born on June 26, 1922 in Plum Coulee, Man. to the late John and Helen Dick Sr. He moved to Fort Frances in the 1920s and had lived here since.
He had worked as a machinist for the Boise Cascade paper mill.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served overseas, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 in Fort Frances. He also was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Frances.
He enjoyed the outdoors and going to his cabin fishing. He also was an avid and dedicated curler both on and off the ice.
John is survived by his children, Ken of Fort Frances, Ont., and Shelley (Duncan) Ross and Lorri Dick, all of Winnipeg, Man.
He also is survived by June Caul of Fort Frances, Ont., a special person in Dad’s life; his grandchildren, Michael of Fort Frances, Ont., Mitzi (Brian) of Peterborough, Ont., and Amanda (Sean) and Tiffany (Andrew), all of Winnipeg, Man.; and two great-grandchildren, Connor Young and Hailey Schellenberg.
Also surviving are one brother, Roy (Rita); three sisters, Jean Cooper, Evelyn Suplee, and Susie (Charles) Canfield; sisters-in-law, Mavis Dick and Cora Dick; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Suoma, on June 16, 1987; parents, John and Helen Dick; brothers Dutch and Irvine; and an infant brother, Edward.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 9, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Frances. Pastor Brian Keffer officiated, followed by interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends visited with the family on Thursday, March 8, 2007 from 7-8 p.m. at Green Funeral home.
The pallbearers were Andrew Schellenberg, Charles Canfield, Douglas Medhurst, Michael Dick, and Duncan Ross.
