JOHN COPENACE (Kiiwedinibines, Atik dodem)

It is with great sadness that the family of Johnny Copenace announces his passing at his home, with family by his side, on Monday, July 11, 2011.
Johnny is survived by his daughters, Sherry Copenace, Hazel Copenace (Leslie), and Joanne Copenace (Lindsay); brothers, Norman (Denise) and Patrick (Angela); and sisters, Gloria Greene, Betty Kavanaugh (Francis), Dorothy Copenace, and Madeline Parks (Lenny).
He also will greatly missed by his grandchildren, Gwen, Kara, Samantha, Sheila, Shay, Savannah, Willow, Trinity, Jackson, Ozzie, and Jermaine; great-grandchildren, Robyn and Valec John; sister-in-law, Lucy Copenace; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn (nee Herbert); parents, Gerald and Maggie; siblings, Hazel, Cecil, Donald, and Henry Copenace, and Alice Arch; and brother-in-law, Ron Seymour.
Johnny was born Feb. 11, 1942 and raised at Onigaming First Nation, where he lived all of his life. In 1959, Johnny met and married Evelyn Herbert and together they raised a family at Onigaming.
He was a fisherman, trapper, hunter, and carpenter. He enjoyed being on the land and in the outdoors.
Johnny also was an avid sportsman in baseball, hockey, curling, and golf, and participated and won many sporting events.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at his residence at Onigaming First Nation, with Rev. Carl Emke and an elder officiating.
Interment will follow at Onigaming First Nation Cemetery.
The honourary pallbearers will be Norman Copenace, Patrick Copenace, Tony Copenace, Gus Copenace, Tommy Copenace, Joseph Copenace, Robert Copenace Sr., Gerald (Ton) Arch and family and friends.
