It is with great sadness that the family of John Audette announces his passing on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
He was born Jean Marie Audette on Oct. 4, 1928 to Joseph and Delima Audette on the family homestead near St. Pierre, Man.
The family relocated several times before coming to Fort Frances in 1940. He had a lifelong career with CN Rail before taking an early retirement.
He was united in marriage to Lucille Penney on Sept. 4, 1954 and they raised four children.
John used to be a hunter and woodworking hobbyist, but he became an avid curler and enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29.
His heart, however, always belonged at the cabin; reading Western novels and watching hockey.
John was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Delima; wife, Lucille; and siblings, Alma Haver, Bernard Audette, and Andre Audette.
He leaves behind his children, Lynda (Nils) Wikner, Cindy Gauthier, Janice (Joe) Berger, and Christopher (fiancée Diana) Audette; grandchildren, Amanda Berry, and Christopher and Nicole Gauthier; pet Wolfgang Berger; great-granddaughter, Ava Berry; and siblings, Marie DeGagne, Steve Audette, Juliette Smits, and Helene Nault.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Fr. Michel Joseph Jean Nault officiating.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The honourary pallbearers were Norman Wood, Ed Kivimaki, John Anderson, Jim Wright, Lyle Fleming, Greg Penney, and Christopher Gauthier.
