JOHN ADRIAN ‘JACK’ ROSE

John Rose, 87, of R.R. 1, Devlin, Ont., passed away at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000.
John as born Dec. 22, 1913 in LeSeine (Flanders), Ont. to the late Christopher and Emily Rose. During the early 1930s, he moved to Burriss, Ont.
On July 5, 1942, he was united in marriage to Olga Richert.
John enlisted on Aug. 13, 1942 with the Royal Canadian Artillery and served during WWII overseas in the United Kingdom, central Mediterranean area, and continental Europe.
He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Italian Star, French and German Star, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.
Following his discharge Feb. 26, 1946, John returned home, where he and Olga raised their family. During those years, he worked for J.A. Mathieu, and as a pulp cutter and trucker, along with his farming. In later years, he also worked for the Township of LaVallee until his retirement at age 65.
Following retirement, he continued farming for some time. John also liked hunting and fishing, and enjoyed the outdoors, where he had an appreciation for nature.
John also had a good sense of humour, and enjoyed the simple things in life.
John is survived by four sons, Larry and wife, Kathy, Ed and wife, Valorie, Mervyn and wife, Laurie Jean, and Jim and wife, Charlotte, all of Fort Frances, Ont.; four daughters, Linda and husband, Dave Starling, of Fort Frances, Ont., Kathy and special friend, Arnie Johnson, of Crozier, Ont., and Maureen and Carol Rose of Burriss, Ont.; 23 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
He also is survived by his half-brother, Hubert Roberson of Burriss, Ont.; brother-in-law, Adolph Domres of Fort Frances, Ont.; and sisters-in-law, Edith Richert of Fort Frances, Ont., and Ann Johnson and husband, Gilbert, of International Falls, Mn.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Olga Rose on Feb. 1, 1989; infant daughter, Doreen Alice Rose in 1961; son, Donald Richard Rose on June 13, 1983; sister, Doris in 1978; and his parents.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Dean Patrow officiated, with interment in Burriss Cemetery in Burriss.
The Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 Colour Party provided their tribute during the service.
Friends visited Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home.
Honourary pallbearers were his grandchildren, Aaron, Patricia, Lisa, Jennifer, April, Tammy, Paul, Scott, Thomas, Tristyn, David Jr., Tyler, Blake, Jason, Justin, Matthew, Cassandra, Nathan, Michael, Brian, John, Kris, and Mervyn Jr.
