Johanna Hendrika (Ann) Veldhuisen (nee Kaemingh), of Emo, Ont., passed on to glory on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006. She was born in Barchem, the Netherlands, on Jan. 16, 1932.
Ann immigrated to Canada in 1947 with her family. Shortly after coming to Canada, Ann met the love of her life, Nick Veldhuisen. They married and enjoyed 52 years of marriage.
Mom reached out to many, tirelessly serving her family and community throughout the years. She was Mom not only to her 15 children and their spouses, but informally to so many others.
Her convictions were strong and solid, and lived out with grace. Mom’s faith in God was an inspiration and example for us all. The world has lost a remarkable woman.
She leaves behind her beloved family, children, Margaret Dykstra, Arnold (Joyce) Veldhuisen, Gary (Anita) Veldhuisen, Grace (Clarence) Joldersma, Nico (Jeannette) Veldhuisen, Richard (Geneva) Veldhuisen, Marie-Ann (Theo) DeGroot, Dianne (Adrian) Heerema, Joanne (Elco) Vandergrift, Alice (Frank) VandeKraats, Gerald (Diane) Veldhuisen, Joyce (Art) Dronkelaar, Peter (Yvonne) Veldhuisen, Anita (Mel) Slomp, and Wilma (Wayne) Kooistra.
Ann was Oma to 57 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She also is survived by her brothers and sisters, Henry (Thea) Kaemingh, Ted (Ynske) Kaemingh, Gertie Kamerman, Alice (Hilke) Wieringa, Ada (Don) Shortreed, Joanne (Ted) Veenstra, Ann (Ralph) Fluit, (Judy) Kaemingh, Helen (Elmer) Cates, and Janette (Herb) Bax.
She was predeceased by her husband, Nick; stillborn son, Willem; parents, Arnold and Grada Kaemingh; sister, Dini, and her brother, Arnold; and brothers-in-law, John Kamerman and Glen Ewald.
A celebration of Ann’s life was held Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo, with Pastor Dan Vos officiating.
A private family interment will take place at the Emo Cemetery in Emo at a later date.
Friends visited with the family on Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo.
The pallbearers were her sons, Arnold, Gary, Nico, Richard, Gerald, and Peter Veldhuisen.
