After a long and healthy life, Johan Lockman passed away at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont. on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017 at the age of 96.
Johan was born in Inverness, Scotland on Aug. 4, 1920 and met her husband, Edward Supinski, during WWII when she was working as a nurse’s aide.
She and Edward married on March 30, 1945 and in 1946, she and her young son came to Canada on the Queen Mary. The family settled in Crozier, Ont. and went on to have three daughters.
Johan was very proud of her Scottish heritage and that she was a War Bride. She was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. # 29 Ladies Auxiliary.
She enjoyed knitting, especially slippers, and being a homemaker. Her specialty was baking lemon and cherry loaf and at Christmas, her family and friends loved her Russian toffee and Flora’s Fudge.
Another pastime that she regularly participated in was Lions’ TV Bingo on Thursday evenings.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, George, his wife, Marie, and their children, John, Karen, and Sheryl; sons-in-law, Jim Carr and Ron Kuharski and children, Jean, Janice, Teresa, and John; son-in-law, Bob Irvine; son, Jason Supinski; and son-in-law, Randy Mihichuk and children, Lesa and Mitch.
She also is survived by her brother, Dennis, and wife, Pauline Reid, of Melbourne, Australia; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Johan was predeceased by her first husband, Edward Supinski in 1979; daughter, Joan in 1989; daughter, Ellen in 2013; daughter, Mary in 2016; parents, Donald and Jessie Reid; her second husband, Herbert Lockman; and siblings, Margaret, Jessie, and George.
Friends are invited to join the family at the Royal Canadian Legion on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 1-3 p.m.
