Joe Kliner passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 13, 2026, at the age of 96. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Carol; parents Henry and Mary Kliner; brothers Robert, Adolph (Ed) and sister Lillian. He is survived by his children Lynne-Marie (Kelly) Lampi, Bonnie (Ed) Pruys, Joel (Casey) Kliner; six granddaughters; four grandsons; 11 great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters and 1 great-great grandson.

Joe was born November 29, 1929, in McIrvine Township. He worked for Walsh Construction building wartime houses on Phair Avenue. He spent many a summer in the mill doing every job from the jack ladder at the river to the finishing room. He worked for Hydro in Stratton and the Lands and Forests (Natural Resources) doing aerial spraying in the Dryden and Kenora Districts. He worked for Becks Brewery and did surveying for Lambden and Galloway. He bartended at the Legion Branch 29, and as a member of the local army reserves he attended camp at CFB Shilo. He was among the first summer students to attend Lakehead University in 1965. He taught grades 5-8 at Robert Moore School for 43 years, with grade 5 being his favourite. He retired in 1986.
He enjoyed spending time with family in Calgary, especially at the Calgary Stampede. He also enjoyed golfing, curling, horseback riding, cowboy music, playing the guitar and bowling. He looked forward with great anticipation to poker nights with his son Joel. His main passion throughout his life was hunting, fishing and camping. He pioneered camping spots at Otter Bay and his favourite spot at the end of Mainville, which he named “Hummingbird Island.” He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.
There will be no service. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Cancer Society.
