JOANNE HELEN JANE BURLINGTON

Joanne Helen Jane Burlington, 53, of International Falls, Mn. passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, Mn.
Joanne was born Oct. 20, 1954 in Chapleau, Ont. She was raised in this area, moving to Sault St. Marie as a young woman. She travelled and lived in several areas before settling here.
She was a teacher’s aide, as well as working as a homemaker. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafts, playing cards, knitting, and solving puzzles.
Joanne was a very helpful person who enjoyed making others laugh and spending time with her grandchildren.
She leaves behind her children, Tina (Will) Wehrenberg, James Leonard, Steve (Pam Major) Leonard, Charlene Leonard (Cory Labelle), and Danielle Leonard (Shawn Smith), all of Rainy River First Nations; and seven grandchildren, Shanelle, Paris, and Tobin Leonard Smith, Chase Major and Caleb Leonard, and Tyson Parisien, and Kimberly Wehrenberg.
Also surviving are her siblings, Marcel Wynne of Fort Frances, Levina Wynne (Harold Hall) of Sault St. Marie, Ont., and Caroline Wynne of Thunder Bay, Ont.; goddaughter, April Cochrane and her family; special friend, Orlando Nazarenus; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Joanne was predeceased by her parents, Steve and Jane Wynne; husband, Arthur Burlington; brothers, Jerry and Allan Wynne; and sister, Marianne Medicine.
A memorial service was held Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Rainy River First Nations gymnasium, with Elder Gilbert Smith officiating.
Cremation has taken place and interment was held at the Rainy River First Nations Cemetery on the hill.
The honourary pallbearers were Joanne’s family and friends.
