Joan Theodora Currie-Marchand passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019.
Joan will be lovingly remembered by her husband, James Marchand of Langley, B.C.; daughter, Brenda (Michael) Gibson; grandchildren, Carol Fawcett and Jason Fawcett; and great-grandchildren, Caleb and Emily.
She also is survived by her sisters, Nancy (Len) Noonan, Lorraine (Rod) Cupp, and Yvette Adams; as well as her brothers, Jim (Barb), Fred (Sonny), Ray (Randi), and Joe.
Joan was predeceased by her father, Theodore (Ted) Gladu in 1983; mother, Margaret Gladu, in 2013; her sister, Mae, in 2009; and her sister, Yvonne, in 1967.
Joan was born on March 15, 1935 in St. Boniface and was employed at the Fort Frances Times from 1950-53.
Joan moved to St. Boniface and worked for Westeel there before transferring to Toronto with Westeel at the same time her husband, Wilfred Force, also was transferred by CN Telegraphs in April, 1956.
Joan and James were married in Victoria, B.C. on Dec. 2, 2004 and later moved to Abbotsford, B.C. before subsequently living in Langley.
In 1968 in Fort Frances, Joan joined the Business & Professional Women’s Club and later transferred to Victoria, B.C.
Joan subsequently was president of the BC &Yukon BPW Clubs. In 2008, Joan received her 40-year pin and a Life Membership in the International Organization.
