JOAN MARY AMERUD

Joan Mary Amerud, 64, of International Falls, Mn., passed away Saturday, April 22, 2000 at Falls Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.
She was born June 22, 1935 in Warroad, Mn. to Rose and Alfred Stoskopf, where she grew up and attended school.
After her marriage to Gordon Amerud on Jan. 5, 1953, they moved to International Falls that September, where they lived except for one-and-a-half years while Gordon was stationed in Anchorage, Al. with the U.S. Army.
Joan was a homemaker as well as had periodic employment as a school cafeteria cook’s helper. She also was an aide at Sunshine Place, and at her daughter’s day care center. Children loved “Grandma Joan.”
She spent time at their hunting shack on the Black River Road, camping, and travelling in their motor home. She also enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds. In her younger years, she snowmobiled and was a very good pool player.
But most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
She also was a past member of the Women of the Moose, Legion Auxiliary, and Devlin TOPS chapter ON #3019.
Joan is survived by her husband, Gordon; son, David (Joanne) of International Falls, Mn.; daughters, Debra (Steve) Fadyk of Mayer, Mn., Diane (Peter) LaVigne of International Falls, Donna (Todd) Forsythe of Ericsburg, Mn., and Danette (Wayne) Nixon of Devlin, Ont.; and 13 grandchildren (Stefan, Nickolas, and Anne Fadyk, Andrew, Alex, and Paul Amerud, Matthew, Wyatt, and Molly LaVigne, Tanner Forsythe, and Rylee, Angel, and Holly Nixon).
She also is survived by her brother, Lawrence Martin of Mesa, Az.; and sisters, Harriette (Fred) Dagg of Chicago, Ill., Rosalee (Melvin) Switzler of Big Fork, Mont., and Theowen (Harold) Thortsen of Warroad, Mn.
She was predeceased by her parents; and brothers, Overby, William, and Donald.
Visitation was held Tuesday, April 25, 2000 from 6-8 p.m. at Green-Larsen Funeral Home in International Falls, with vigil prayers at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 26, 2000 at 2 p.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in International Falls, with Rev. Fr. Louis Sondgeroth (OMI) officiating.
Interment in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery.
