Joan Marie Payne, 72, of Devlin, Ont., passed away peacefully on Monday, July 30, 2007 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont., surrounded by her close friends and family, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
    Joan was born Oct. 12, 1934 in Fort Frances.
    Joan is survived by her husband and love of her life of 55 years, Stanley; their daughter, Beverly and son-in-law, David Boles; grandsons, David Boles and his wife, Angelle, and Darren Boles and fiancée, Keri; granddaughter, Ashley Johnson and husband, Brent; and brother, Bill Krukoski and his wife, Joan; as well as nieces and nephews.
    Joan was predeceased by her daughter, Katheren in 1999, and also is survived by Katheren’s three daughters, Chere, Tiprene, and Serena and six great-grandchildren.
    She also was predeceased by her parents, Matt and Pauline Krukoski.
    Joan loved life. Her garden and flowers gave her much pleasure. She also enjoyed spending time on the lake in the peace and quite of the outdoors, and camping with her family.
    Joan was a very spiritual person and her faith gave her the strength and courage to face her illness with dignity. She will be greatly missed!
    Funeral services will take place Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses (Heward Road and Highway 11/71).
