Joan Marie Jourdain, 50, of 145 Hudson Dr., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances with her family and friends by her side.
Joan was born June 1, 1956 in Fort Frances to the late Andrew and Mary Jourdain.
Left to mourn her passing are her siblings, Steve (Iris) of Lac La Croix, Ont., Lillian (John Boshey) of Tower, Mn., Josephine (Ed Atatise) of Lac La Croix, Ont., Nora (Jim Atatise) of Lac La Croix, Ont., Angus (Janice) of Lac La Croix, Ont., Leon of Kenora, Ont., Larry (Corrine) of Thunder Bay, Ont., Gordon of Hayward, Wis., and Andrew Jr. (Marietta) of Lac La Croix, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Mary Jourdain; brothers, Paul and Norman Jourdain; sister, Isabel Yesno; and her Grandma, Mary Pat Jourdain.
Joan also will be missed and always remembered by her friends and staff at Community Living and Front Street Manor.
Prior to Isabel’s passing, Joan enjoyed her many trips to visit with Isabel and her family in Thunder Bay.
Joan was loved by all, and everyone who knew her will never forget her “spunky” personality. Her smile would light up a room. Joan also was a compassionate and caring person, showing concern for the welfare of others.
At the age of 20, Joan was employed at Arc Industries in Fort Frances and continued her employment at Good Impressions until her retirement. Joan’s workmanship was consistently of the highest quality and every task she completed was in perfect order.
Joan was active in Ontario Special Olympics, where she received numerous medals and awards. Her favourite sports included bowling, swimming, baseball, and floor hockey.
She also loved music, dancing, singing, playing TV Bingo, and having coffee with her friends.
Every year, Joan enjoyed her summer vacation at Sunny Cove with her friends, as well as Community Living staff and volunteers.
A traditional ceremony will take place Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the residence of Angus Jourdain Jr. at Lac La Croix First Nation. Gilbert Smith will officiate.
