JOAN HAGARTY

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Joan Hagarty on Friday, August 14, at Rainy River Hospital.

Joan was born in Rainy River on April 11, 1941, to Idris and Ruth Lyons. The family moved to B.C. shortly after and then back to Baudette, Minn., where they settled. Joan met the love of her life, Bill Hagarty, on New Years Eve 1957/58 and they were married on August 6, 1960. Joan was active in the Rebekahs and the Eastern Star and volunteered much of her time to help with the many dinners and teas hosted by these organizations. Joan worked at the CIBC for many years and enjoyed working with everyone through the years.

Joan and Bill loved travelling and had many adventures together before retiring. They then purchased a place in Arizona to escape the Canadian winters. Joan joined a quilting group and started on the path that would become her passion – making quilts for kids in the hospital. Joan has made and donated hundreds of quilts over the years and it gave her great joy.

She is survived by her son Brad Hagarty and daughter Lynnette Hagarty; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren (her pride and joy), as well as other relatives and many loving friends.

Joan was predeceased by her parents Idris and Ruth Lyons; her brothers Gary and Charles (Chuck) Lyons; her husband Bill Hagarty; and her daughter-in-law Elizabeth (Liz) Burt Hagarty.

As per Joan’s request a private family gathering will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial donations can be made to the Rainy River Hospital.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all moms wonderful friends who helped so much in the last few months and to the staff and Dr’s at the Rainy River Hospital for making mom so comfortable and treating us so well.

Arrangements entrusted to Northridge Funeral Home Ltd., Emo, Ontario.
