Jo-Anna Granholm, nee Glueheisen, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009 with her husband and parents by her side after a courageous four-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.
She was born in La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. on Sept. 30, 1974.
Jo-Anna graduated from Fort Frances High School in 1993. She then studied her RPN training at La Verendrye General Hospital. The following September, she headed to University College of the Caribou in Kamloops, B.C. to take her RN training.
Jo-Anna switched her career focus to the chefs’ course at the college. She later moved to Edmonton, Alta., a city that she loved, and worked as a chef at many outstanding restaurants.
Early in 2005, she met the love of her life, Daniel Granholm, and on Sept. 3 of that year they exchanged their wedding vows.
Jo-Anna and Dan lived in both Edmonton and Thunder Bay, Ont.
Jo-Anna had a loving, caring smile and attitude that exuded warmth and compassion, and made anyone feel loved and cared for no matter what. She had such an ability to empathize with individuals and an ability to listen not just with her ears but also with her heart—a quality that’s not often seen in people.
This warm smile and caring attitude are most likely what drew Dan into her life.
Jo-Anna will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Daniel; her parents, Larry and Shirley Glueheisen; sister, Jennifer Soderholm; brother, Jonathan (Missy) Glueheisen; father-in-law, Jack Granholm; sisters-in-law, Michelle(Paul) Wilson and Angela (Tom Dufault) Granholm; and grandparents Milton and Betty Glueheisen, and Doris McCready.
She will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews, McKenna and Madison Soderholm, Riley Glueheisen, Sara and Christine Wilson, Tanner Glueheisen and Luke Wilson, and Kayla and Sage Campbell. Jo-Anna also is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends.
She was predeceased by her grandfather, William McCready; mother-in-law, Laila Granholm; brother-in-law, David Granholm; and uncle, Lynn McCready.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont., with Pastor David Groff officiating.
A reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion in Emo.
Interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances at a later date.
The honourary pallbearers will be Jennifer Soderholm, Tammy McCabe, Elizabeth Hemphill, Michele Wilson, and Angela Granholm.
