JENNIE RIZZO

Jennie Rizzo, 80, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 2003 at her home.
Jennie was born Sept. 14, 1923 in Fort William, Ont. She was united in marriage to Francesco (Frank) Rizzo on June 14, 1945.
Jennie spent many years cooking for the local restaurants, including the Rainy Lake Hotel, La Place Rendez-Vous, and Rainycrest. She was known for her cakes and dainties—not only did she bake the best, but they were decorated to suit the request of the recipient.
For many people, a birthday wasn’t complete without one of Jennie’s cakes. Her wedding cakes were fabulous.
She was a member of the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church for much of her life, but the last 12 years of her life she was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, on March 14, 1983; her parents, Frank and Lena Mihichuk; and brothers, Matt, John, and Victor and his wife, Muriel Mihichuk.
Jennie leaves behind her daughters, Barbara Strand (Russell) of International Falls, Mn., Rosemarie Wagner (Charles) of Fort Frances, Ont., and Toni Laferty (Lorne) of Prince George, B.C.; sons, Wayne Rizzo (Susan) of Penticton, B.C., and Frank Rizzo (Maria) of Prince George, B.C.; grandchildren, Cyndy and Kimberly Strand, Bradley and Kevin Johnson, Tasha Wagner, Giovanni Rizzo, and Julie Zanier; great-grandson, Kayden Zanier; and brother, Orest Mihichuk (Iris).
A prayer service was held Monday, Oct. 6, 2003 at 7 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
A funeral mass was held Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Rey Ronquillo officiating.
Cremation will follow, with a private family interment.
The pallbearers were Russell Strand, Charlie Wagner, Michael Mihichuk, Reno Coran, Danny Mihichuk, and Mark Kowalchuk.
Honourary pallbearers were Helen Kitzul, Marcia Zeleny, Sadie Kowalchuk, Linda Rajala, Chris LaVigne, and Olga Mihichuk.
