Jean D. Kleppe (nee Werestiuk), 71, of Poulsbo, Wash., formerly of Sundown, Man. and Fort Frances, Ont., passed into the care of our Lord on Sept. 2, 2006 from cardiac arrest after a courageous battle with cancer, with her loving son, Kurt, and daughter-in-law, Cynthia, by her side.
Jean was born in Roseau, Mn. to John and Pearl (Prociuk) Wirstiuk on July 23, 1935. She was raised and educated in Canada.
She graduated from United College in Winnipeg, Man. in 1954, where she majored in religious education.
After teaching in many rural communities in Manitoba and Northern Ontario, she chose a career in banking, starting as a teller and retiring as a senior commercial loans officer from Bank of America in 1991.
She married Edward E. Kleppe of International Falls, Mn. in 1962. Her son, Kurt John, was born in 1971.
Jean was predeceased by her father, John Wirstiuk of Sundown, Man., in 1971 and mother, Pearl Jackowski of Winnipeg, Man., in 1984; and brother, Paul Wirstiuk of Winnipeg, Man. in 1965.
She leaves to mourn her passing son, Kurt John (Cynthia) of Poulsbo, Wash.; sister, Sylvia “Sally” Byblow (Harvey) of Ituna, Sask.; granddaughter, Brooke of Poulsbo, Wash.; and nephews, Dan and Russell Wirstiuk of Winnipeg, Man.
A private service was held Friday, Sept. 8, 2006 at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Poulsbo, with inurnment following at Stone Chapel Mortuary, where she rests in peace.
