JANICE MARIE (BIRD) CULLEN

Janice Marie (Bird) Cullen quietly and courageously joined her parents and grandparents on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016 after a long-time battle with Scleroderma.
Jan was born April 2, 1951 to Ernest and Beatrice (Yerxa) Bird in Fort Frances, Ont.
Jan and her brother, Greg’s, parents had parted ways when they were very young, and they were raised amongst many beloved family members and foster homes.
In 1967, Jan gave birth to a son, Dave Roberts, whom she reconnected with in 2004.
Shortly after Dave’s birth, our mother was sent from Fort Frances to Saint Michael’s Academy in Brandon, Man. It was there where she met Brian Cullen and they were married in 1968.
Jan forever will be remembered for her sense of humour, love of her entire family, playing Bingo, reading, writing, going to church and pow-wows, attending socials and country music concerts, and loving her pets.
Jan graduated from Brandon University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1992 and continued to work in jobs which she loved at the Westman Women’s Shelter, Addictions Foundation Manitoba, and the Brandon Public Library until her illness no longer allowed her to.
Jan also was very proud of her faith in the Catholic Church and her involvement with the former Kateri Circle.
Jan was predeceased by her parents, Ernest Bird and Beatrice Kenny; step-father, Richard Kenny; and her beloved grandparents.
She is survived by her husband, Brian; son, Dave (Debbie) Roberts, daughter, Terry (Curt) Ross, son, Randy, and daughter, Trish (Dany Hamel) Cullen; and surrogate parents, Dick and Rose Bird and step-mother, Judy Bird.
Her grandchildren will greatly miss her loving presence, Matthew (Kristina), Marc (Vanessa), Lucas, Mitchell, Myles, Mason, Jacob, Emily, Noah, Evan, and Robin. Jan also had three precious great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Jaxon, and Madison.
Jan also is survived by her siblings, Greg Bird, Carolyn (Mike) Henderson, Rod (Maria) Bird, Denise (Brock) Cousins, Dean Bird, Kyla (Jeff) Savage, and Peggy (Buddy) Loyie.
She also has countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, friends, and foster siblings whom meant so much to her throughout her life.
As per her personal wishes, in memoriam donations to abuse shelters are greatly appreciated.
