The family of Janet Silander announced her peaceful passing on June 29, 2026, at her daughter’s house in Rainy River, Ont., with her family by her side.
Janet was born in Emo, Ont., on April 1, 1953, to John Upshall and Mae Upshall (nee Smith) She grew up in Kingsford Twp. where she met her husband Don Silander. They moved to Ear Falls, Ont., where she resided and built her life.
Janet married Don on Nov. 20, 1971, and they had three children: Nancy, Gwen and Dwight.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Nancy Silander (Gord), Gwen Halverson (Danny). She leaves behind five grandchildren Kaylee, Chase, Hades, Onyx and Kamiika as well as two great-grandchildren Lakelyn and Wrenlee. Also surviving are brother Garry Upshall (Betty); sisters-in-law Grace Silander, Karen Olson, Sherryl Hoskins; daughter-in-law Bridie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by parents John and Mae; her husband Don; son Dwight; and brother-in-law Barry.
Janet loved spending quality time with her family, boating and fishing on the lake, hunting, relaxing at her cabin and enjoyed spending many hours in her flower gardens.
Janet was a strong resilient women who put up a long hard battle this last year against cancer.
A private family gathering will take place at a later date.
As per Janet’s wishes donations may be made to the Tamarack House in Thunder Bay, Ont.
