After a brief battle with cancer, Ethel “Janet” Fenton (nee Paterson), of Dyment, Ont., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006 at the Dryden Regional Health Centre.
Janet was born Dec. 1, 1934 at Emo, Ont. She attended school in Carpenter Township and Fort Frances, Ont. After high school, she worked retail when she met Jim, who she would later marry on Sept. 8, 1954 in Fort Frances.
They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2004.
In 1966, Janet and Jim moved with their family from Dance to Dinorwic, Ont., and later Dyment, where they resided for the next 40 years.
Janet loved gardening, watching birds at the many feeders, and being outdoors. She also loved sewing and making all kinds of crafts, and she was an avid reader.
As well, Janet was a faithful and active member of Trinity Lutheran in Dinorwic.
She leaves to celebrate her life, and keep her memory alive, her children, Douglas of New York City, Cheryl Bruneau (Lloyd) of Oakville, Ont., Carla Potter (Darrell) of Dyment, Ont., Connie Fenton-Smedts (Hubert) of Winnipeg, Man., and Vincent of Dryden, Ont.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jim, on Nov. 5, 2004; her parents, Robert and Hazel Paterson; a brother; and granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 24, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Dryden, with Mr. Ralph Arndt assisting.
Interment of ashes will follow later in the cemetery at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dinorwic.
