James William “Jim” Carmody, 70, of Devlin, Ont., passed away peacefully, with his loving wife at his side, on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. after a valiant battle with cancer.
Jim was born Aug. 16, 1940 in Fort Frances to Lloyd and Grace Carmody.
In his younger years, he worked as a guide, and at the fish packing plant in Sioux Narrows, Ont. He later worked on construction and was part of the team that built the Bears Pass bridge.
In 1962, Jim started work at the paper mill and worked through many changes there until his retirement in 1998.
In 1963, he married the love of his life, Freeda Greensides. That same year they built their home in Devlin and have resided there ever since.
Jim took great pride in working with Freeda to keep their yard impeccable. He had an artistic talent and was happy to help with any project Freeda and the girls took on.
He also enjoyed tinkering in his workshop and building birdhouses, and fixing anything else that needed fixing.
He loved his girls, grandchildren, and sons-in-laws greatly. Jim will be missed greatly by his family, but we know he will be keeping watch over us all.
Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Freeda; daughters, Cindy (Gary Cain) and Penney (Kirk Bradley); granddaughters, Chrysta Cain and Jody Cain, and grandson, Hunter Bradley; sisters-in-law, Ethel Bujold and Audrey Forster; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, Grace and Lloyd Carmody; mother- and father-in-law, Florence and Fred Greensides; brother, Earl; sister, Gene; twin brother, John; brothers-in-law, Fred Bujold, Thomas Forster, and Jim Springer; sister-in-law, Sylvia Carmody; and nephews, Duane Springer and Karl Zimmerman.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 10, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Frances Flook officiated, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Family and friends visited Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances.
